The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). 9 And indeed We sent Noble Messengers before you, to the former nations. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
