(O Muhammad), recite in the Book the account of Abraham. Most surely he was a man of truth, a Prophet. 41 Behold, he said to his father: "O my father! why worship that which heareth not and seeth not, and can profit thee nothing? 42 Father, a knowledge that has not reached you has come to me. So follow me that I may guide you to a Straight Way. 43 O My father! worship not the Satan; verily the Satan hath been unto the Compassionate a rebel. 44 "O my father! Verily! I fear lest a torment from the Most Beneficent (Allah) overtake you, so that you become a companion of Shaitan (Satan) (in the Hell-fire)." [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi] 45 He said: "Are you averse to my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist, I shall have you stoned to death. So go away for a while from me." 46 He answered: "Peace be on you. I will seek forgiveness of my Lord for you. He has been gracious to me. 47 I will leave you and those you invoke apart from God, and pray to my Lord. Haply in praying to my Lord I will not be deprived." 48 Thereupon Abraham dissociated himself from his people and the deities they worshipped instead of Allah, and We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob and made each of them a Prophet; 49 And We gave them of Our mercy, and we made for them a reputation of high honor. 50
