Aaron had already told them, "O my people! You are only being tested by this. Your Lord is the All Merciful, so follow me and obey my command." 90 They said, "We will never cease being devoted to the calf until Moses returns to us." 91 Then Moses asked Aaron, "What made you not follow me when you saw them in error? 92 From following me? Then have you disobeyed my order?" 93 [Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, do not seize [me] by my beard or by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe [or await] my word.' " 94 Said [Moses]: "What, then, didst thou have in view, O Samaritan?" 95 He said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me." 96 'Begone! Your lot in this life is to cry: "untouchable!' said he (Moses). 'An appointment awaits you that you cannot fail to keep. Look at your god which you clung to indeed we will burn it and scatter its ashes upon the sea' 97 Your Allah is only Allah, there is no god but He; He comprehends all things in (His) knowledge. 98 This is how We relate the former tidings to you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him); and We have given you a Remembrance* from Ourselves. (*The Holy Qur’an.) 99 Whoever turns away from it, will bear a burden on the Day of Resurrection. 100 and live in it for ever; how evil will that burden be for them on the Day of Resurrection. 101 on the Day when the trumpet is blown: for on that Day We will assemble all such as had been lost in sin, their eyes dimmed [by terror,] 102 In whispers will they consult each other: "Yet tarried not longer than ten (Days); 103 We know well what they will say. The most just among them in the matter will declare: 'You have stayed away but one day' 104
