Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 "Or do they benefit you or harm you?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 "And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations." 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 "And none misled us but the guilty." 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 no caring friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
