'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
