(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
