The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
