Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
