The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 In a nearer land; and they, after the overcoming of them, shall soon overcome. 3 in a few years. To God belongs the Command before and after, and on that day the believers shall rejoice 4 at the victory granted by Allah. He grants victory to whomsoever He pleases. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate. 5 The promise of God! God fails not His promise, but most men do not know it. 6 They know an outward part of this life, but of the Everlasting Life they are inattentive. 7 What, have they not considered within themselves? God created not the heavens and the earth, and what between them is, save with the truth and a stated term; yet most men disbelieve in the encounter with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled in the earth and seen how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than these in prowess, and dug up the earth, and built on it in greater abundance than these have built on it, and there came to them their apostles with clear arguments; so it was not beseeming for Allah that He should deal with them unjustly, but they dealt unjustly with their own souls. 9 Evil was the end of those evil-doers, for they gave the lie to Allah's Signs and scoffed at them. 10
