The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans are vanquished, 2 In the neighbouring land. But having been conquered they will conquer 3 In some few years. Allah's is the command, before and after. And on that day the believers will rejoice. 4 With the help of Allah, He helps whom He wills, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 5 It is a promise of God; and God does not go back on His promise. Yet most men do not understand: 6 They know only the visible worldly life; and are totally neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Have they never learned to think for themselves? God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them without [an inner] truth and a term set [by Him]: and yet, behold, there are many people who stubbornly deny the truth that they are destined to meet their Sustainer! 8 Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed the earth and built it up more than they have built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And Allah would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves. 9 And once again: evil is bound to be the end of those who do evil by giving the lie to God's messages and deriding them. 10
