۞ But We shall say, "Assemble those who did wrong together with their associates and what they worshipped 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 They will be asked, "Why do you not help each other?" 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 On that day they will all share the torment. 33 As such We shall deal with the evildoers. 34 For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 there is waiting for them a known provision; 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 in gardens of bliss, 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 a goblet from a spring shall be passed round to them 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of AzZakkum! 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
