And indeed Nuh (Noah) invoked Us, and We are the Best of those who answer (the request). 75 And We delivered him and his people from the great distress, 76 And We preserved his descendants. 77 And left (his name) for posterity. 78 Peace and salutation to Nuh among the nations. 79 Even so We recompense the good-doers; 80 Verily, he [Nuh (Noah)] was one of Our believing slaves. 81 We drowned all the others (besides Noah and his people). 82 ۞ And Abraham indeed was of his inducement, 83 Behold! he approached his Lord with a sound heart. 84 [And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship? 85 "Is it a falsehood- gods other than Allah- that ye desire? 86 "Then what is your idea about the Lord of the worlds?" 87 Then he looked carefully at the stars 88 and he said, 'Surely I am sick.' 89 And they turned their backs on him and went away. (The pagans thought he would transmit the disease). 90 Then he turned to their aliha (gods) and said: "Will you not eat (of the offering before you)? 91 Why do you not speak?" 92 And then he fell upon them, smiting them with his right hand. 93 Then came the others to him hastening. 94 He said, “What! You worship what you yourselves have sculpted?” 95 while it is Allah Who has created you and all that you make?” 96 They said, "Construct for him a furnace and throw him into the burning fire." 97 But whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We [frustrated their designs, and thus] brought them low? 98 He said, 'I am going to my Lord; He will guide me. 99 Abraham prayed, "Lord, grant me a righteous son". 100 So We gave him tidings of a gentle son. 101 And [one day,] when [the child] had become old enough to share in his [father's] endeavours, the latter said: "O my dear son! I have seen in a dream that I should sacrifice thee: consider, then, what would be thy view!" [Ishmael] answered: "O my father! Do as thou art bidden: thou wilt find me, if God so wills, among those who are patient in adversity!" 102 Then, when they had both submitted themselves (to the Will of Allah), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (or on the side of his forehead for slaughtering); 103 We called out to him "O Abraham! 104 you have indeed fulfilled your dream. Thus do We reward the good-doers.” 105 Indeed this was a clear test. 106 And We rescued him in exchange of a great sacrifice. (The sacrifice of Ibrahim and Ismail – peace be upon them – is commemorated every year on 10, 11 and 12 Zil Haj). 107 And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times. 108 "Peace and salutation to Abraham!" 109 Thus do We reward the good-doers. 110 Indeed, he was of Our believing servants. 111 And We gave him the glad tidings of Ishaq, a Herald of the Hidden, from among those who deserve Our proximity. 112 and We blessed him and Isaac, and from their offspring are some gooddoers, and others who clearly wronged themselves. 113
