AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers, 141 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 142 And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah) 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ But We caused him to be cast forth on to the beach, sick as he was, 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 No indeed! It is one of their fabrications when they say: 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Will you not, then, bethink yourselves? 155 Or have you, perchance, a clear evidence [for your assertions]? 156 Then bring your book, if ye say sooth. 157 They have said that there is a relationship between Him and the jinn. The jinn certainly know that they will all be brought to suffer torment. 158 Exalted is Allah above what they describe, 159 all of them except the chosen servants of Allah. 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 can cause anyone to fall prey to your temptation 162 except for he who shall roast in Hell. 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); 165 and, verily, we too extol His limitless glory!" 166 And indeed, the disbelievers used to say, 167 Had we a reminder from those of yore, 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 Yet they disbelieve therein. Presently they shall come to know. 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 will certainly be victorious 172 and that Our army will be triumphant. 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 and see them [for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 175 Would they hasten on Our doom? 176 When that chastisement will descend upon their courtyard, evil shall that Day be for those who had been warned. 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
