Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha-Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth: 2 behold, We have made it an Arabic Koran; haply you will understand; 3 And surely it is in the original of the Book with Us, truly elevated, full of wisdom. 4 Shall We then take away from you the admonition because ye are a people extravagant? 5 And how many a prophet did We send to people of olden times! 6 no Prophet came to them except that they mocked him, 7 We therefore destroyed the people who were more forceful than these, and the example of the earlier ones has already gone by. 8 If thou askest them, 'Who created the heavens and earth?' they will say, 'The All-mighty, the All-knowing created them.' 9 He Who made the earth a resting-place for you, and made in it ways for you that you may go aright; 10 And He Who sends down water from the cloud according to a measure, then We raise to life thereby a dead country, even thus shall you be brought forth; 11 And who created the species, all of them, and has made for you of ships and animals those which you mount. 12 so that you may sit firmly on their backs. Then once you have mounted them, remember your Lord's favour and say, "Glory be to Him who has subjected these creatures to us; we would never on our own have subdued them. 13 And surely to our Lord we must return. 14 AND YET, they attribute to Him offspring from among some of the beings created by Him! Verily, most obviously bereft of all gratitude is man! 15
