Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Clear Book 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
