Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
