Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
