The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 and the roof uplifted 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 No one can avert it. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
