The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the Mountain, 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 On an open record. 3 by the much-visited House, 4 And the roof exalted, 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
