The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
