The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
