The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the declining star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
