The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And shade extended 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
