The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And extended shade, 30 and waters gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
