The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 Gushing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
