The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 facing one another. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and banana trees, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
