A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
