A multitude from the ancients. 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 And those on the left - how wretched are those on the left! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
