A multitude of those of old 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
