a good many of olden times, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
