The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And the family in which he was. 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 except those who are steadfast 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
