NAY, but consider the moon! 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Indeed hell is one of the greatest entities. 35 A warning for people -- 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Except those of the right hand 39 who will be in Paradise 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
