Dispatched (Al-Mursalaat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER these [messages,] sent forth in waves 1 by (the angels) as swift as blowing winds, 2 by (the angels) spreading (the words of God) far and wide, 3 And those that distinguish distinctly, 4 and those hurling a reminder 5 To excuse or to warn, 6 that whatever with which you have been warned will inevitably come to pass. 7 So when stars are effaced. 8 And when the heaven is rent asunder, 9 And when the mountains are carried away by wind. 10 And when the Messengers are gathered to their time appointed; 11 For what day is that time fixed? 12 For the Day of sorting out (the men of Paradise from the men destined for Hell). 13 Would that you knew what the Day of Decision is! 14 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! 15 Did We not destroy the earlier people? 16 Then caused the latter folk to follow after? 17 In this wise We do with the culprits. 18 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! 19 Did We not create you from contemptible water? 20 which We placed within a sure lodging 21 For a period (of gestation), determined (according to need)? 22 So We decreed. How excellent are We as decreers! 23 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 24 Have We not made the earth (as a place) to draw together. 25 for the living and the dead, 26 And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water. 27 Woe on that day unto the beliers! 28 Depart to that you cried was lies! 29 Proceed to a shadow rising in three columns: 30 affording neither shade, nor protection from the flames, 31 it throws spits as (high as a huge) palace, 32 As though they were camels yellow tawny. 33 Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth 34 This is a day wherein they speak not, 35 And permission shall not be given to them so that they should offer excuses. 36 Woe on that Day to those who belied it! 37 Such is the Day of Decision. We will gather you with the ancients. 38 So if you have a plan, then plan against Me. 39 Alas the woe that day for those who deny! 40
