The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 , A fitting reward. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
