The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
