He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
