He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he feareth 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
