He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and palms 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
