He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
