He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
