He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
