He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honourable pages. 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
