He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
