The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun shall be wound round, 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 And when the she-camels big with young shall be abandoned, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 And when the seas shall be filled, 6 when the souls are divided into different classes, 7 And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked 8 For what crime she was put to death; 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 hell is made to blaze, 12 And when Paradise is brought near. 13 then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds. 14 So I swear by the retreating stars - 15 that hide, 16 The closing night, 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 Truly, this is the word brought by a noble messenger, 19 [Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position], 20 there he is obeyed and held trustworthy. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 Assuredly he beheld him in the horizon manifest. 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of an outcast devil. 25 Where then are you going? 26 This is merely a reminder to all mankind; 27 for everyone of you who wishes to follow the Straight Way; 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
