The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 Will pray for death, 11 and he shall roast at a Blaze. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 And by the night and that which it driveth together, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing. 25
