Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 with a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and arranged cushions 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
