Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a high Garden. 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
