Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heaven how it has been raised? 18 And the mountains how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
