Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
