The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
